Gaspard has been going skiing in Val d’Isere for 3-4 years in a row. He likes it very much there and has not yet had the time to discover the other slopes around Val d’Isere including one which connects to Italy. He arrived a week ago, the weather is very beautiful, skiing is great and there is a lot of snow, actually this is the most snow he has seen in the time since he’s been coming here.

He came here with friends who have been coming to Val d’Isere for years and they know the place a lot better than him. He’s met the locals and he feels very welcomed.

In September he finished filming a movie in Greece, on a small island in the Cyclades. The movie is called Tu honoreras ta mere (You’ll honor your mother) but the title may be changes since the editing has just begun. The movie will be ready in time for the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is a comedy and it focuses on mother-son relationship but also on the crisis in Greece. It’s about a family which goes to Greece for vacation when the current crisis strikes and we follow them as they find their way through it. He loves the actors he has worked with.

The reporter says that his career has taken another path since the very beginning. Gaspard agrees, says that the most important part of an actor’s career isn’t his coming to fame but the the duration of his career. He feels that at this moment in his life and career you need to step back a little and be very careful about what projects you choose to make. He says there are a lot of actors who feel bad when they are not working between two filmings, but this is not the case with him. He doesn’t like to stop playing one character and then immediately start being some other character in a new movie. He needs some time off between two filmings and thinks that an actor feeds himself through the life he leads, so this helps him to portray emotions better in front of a camera. You need to have some time for yourself.

His dream is to become a movie director, and after high school he started attending college for moviemakers. His passion is cinema, not theater. He loves his job as an actor, working on a character, showing emotions, but what he loves the most is simply working on a movie. His dream is to make his own movie, to express himself this way, and be the boss on the set.

He would like to be a director of movies from different genres, but he would like his first movie to be a simple movie about human relations, a drama or a comedy drama.

His career really took off at a young age, with the move by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, when he was only 20 years old, then with winning a Cesar, he had fans following him everywhere, but with time he started choosing more mature roles, more interesting characters, which happens as you get older.

He is leaving Val d’Isere the following day but he will be back at the end of the skiing season.

i really want to make some contribution for the translate. since i only understand Chinese and English, i can only translate chinese into english. in 2010 a reporter from a big website in China interviewed Gaspard, of course they useed English, but i can’t find the video, so i translate the document( Chinese) to English, i will finish it as soon as possible.

1, Reporter: Many fans in China think after you starred in ” Hannibal Rising” and became popular, you were not active in the movie industry in recent two years; also, you didn’t appear in public very often. Can you talk about what you are doing?
Gaspard: Before I began shooting this movie, i had been taking a rest for almost a year. But in last year, I appeared in 4 movies in France, it’s not a small amount, however they are small movies, without the chances to be released in foreign countries. After the shooting of these four movies, I think I need the break between different works, I want to live the normal life, take a rest, and then I can start my new works. I know there are some actors who are very hard-working, always in the condition of working, but I don’t like it, I need to rest, keep some distances from my job.

加斯帕德·尤利尔：好莱坞电影工业极其庞大，它也吸引了大量优秀的演员。因为《少年汉尼拔》，我进入了这个工业，那个地方是这样给外国演员许诺的：你来好莱坞发展，我们就会给你房子住、给你戏拍；但我真的到了那里，才发现像我这样的人太多了。唯一能出头的方法，只有像玛丽昂•歌迪亚那样，有一座奥斯卡小金人傍身，所有事情都好办、所有公司都会向你敞开大门；但如果只想凭一部电影在那里闯出名堂，对一个法国人来说倒不是没可能，但过程依然艰难，就好像一切都要重来，我在好莱坞的时候，有种感觉是：天哪！我又回到事业的起点了，在这里我还是一个愣头青。当然，我也愿意去好莱坞拍戏，谁不想呢？但这目前不是我的主要目标，事业重心还是得在法国，如果要我在好莱坞电影里演个法国人也没问题，但要我装成一个美国人，我的英语口音可没法那么完美。
2, R: ” Hannibal Rising” didn’t make you stay in Hollywood. Is this your own choice?
G: Hollywood is really huge, it attracted dozens of great actors and actresses. Because of “Hannibal Rising”, I entered this industry, that place make promises to the foreign actors: You come to Hollywood, we will provide you the house to live, the movie to play; but it was not until I really came to there that I found there are many actors like me. The only way to be successful is like Marion Cotillard, with Oscar, everything is easy, every companies will open the door to you; but if you want to acheive something there only with one movie, for a French it is not impossible, but the process is still hard, it feels like everything needs to start again. When I was in Hollywood, I got a feeling: Oh my God, I came back to the start of my work again! At there I was still a novice. Of course I want to go to Hollywood, who doesn’t? But it’s not my main goal now, I still work in France. If they want me to play a french people in Hollywood movie, it’s OK; but to act an American, my accent is not that perfect.
3, 网易娱乐：如你所说，现在的你已经不是刚出道那时天真少年的外形，你现在也有意往硬汉路线走吗？
加斯帕德·尤利尔：我觉得如何在商业片和艺术片之间平衡比较重要。这个工作最吸引我的地方在于能在不同的角色里揣摩他们的情感，最完美的状态当然是好人、坏人、各种人都能演，但都得基于别人提供来的角色。有时候我觉得导演们缺乏想象力，因为他们总是把一种类型的角色塞给我，这也是演员需要去反抗的，以保持扮演各种角色可能性的平衡。我长大了，变得更强壮了，于是就有很多人来邀我演动作片，或者硬派的角色，这样是不错，但我还是希望接一些内心敏感、悲情的角色。
3, R: As you say, now your appearence is different to that innocent boy when you just began your career. Do you want to act some rough characters?
G: I think how to keep balance in commercial movie and art movie is more important. The thing attracts me most in this job is being able to think of their emotions from different characters. The most perfect condition is that you can play good man, bad man, every types of the man, but it bases on what characters that others provide you. Sometimes I think that many directors are lack of imagination, because they always give me the same characters, this is what the actors need to fight against it in order to keep the possiblity of playing various characters. I grow up, becoming stronger, so that many people invite me to play action movies, or some rough characters. This is fine, but I still want to play some role with complicated, melancholy emotions.

Andy Gillet is preparing to become a museum exhibit. Spotted front row at the Alexis Mabille men’s show Thursday, the French actor said he would star alongside Sharon Stone, Gaspard Ulliel and Roxane Mesquida in a “filmic object” due to premiere at the Centre Pompidou in Paris on Feb. 12. “The American Tetralogy,” directed by artist Philippe Terrier-Hermann, is screening as part of the Hors Pistes moving image festival.

“It’s a project that questions the myths of cinema,” said Gillet, who described working with Stone as “incredible.” “She is a gorgeous woman, for one, with impressive generosity and crazy charisma,” he raved.
