Back in March when Gaspard visited the United States to promote “The Princess of Montpensier” he filmed this very candid interview with French Morning while walking around New York. Gaspard talks about the differences of french and american productions and he also mentions how he really admires Leonardo Dicaprio. You can watch it below! Thanks to Quincy for the tip. I’ve added HQ screencaptures of it in the gallery so make sure to check those out too!
If you are located in the UK, remember “The Princess of Montpensier” is out on July 8th! InStyle has an exclusive preview that you can watch here!

at least now you won’t have to seek for it & search every corner. the original comment could be found at La Princesse de Montpensier post below. if my repost is a bad bad thing I apologize.

@ POPY BARUA: hey, here is the translation of the Corner interview for you (and for everybody else)
- if we were now in Paris a lot of people would be shouting at the cameras, but here people are more used to them, so people just duck… here everybody does what they want.
- it’s so great to come to NY and present a movie. Here I’ve been to the parties where models, bankers and hot-dog makers stand next to each other and in France that is not the case.
- NY is a city you go through, but it goes through you too. It gives you a feeling of well-being, it has a constant energy which I find very stimulating. I have often asked myself the question of what is like to live here – I have never stayed for longer than a month – and I think in the long run living here would also be exhausting.
- Hollywood is always an idea, sometimes it seems unreachable. At one point I did go there and did what’s called general meetings – where foreign actors meet casting directors and producers. It’s very impersonal and very different from the industry in France. Here you go to 30 storey towers and have meeting which can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours. I have not like it at all. There are other ways, I think the ideal would be to arrive in Hollywood as an already established star, for example like Marion Cotillard has done with winning an Oscar, that is the best way. Then it’s a whole different story and then it’s really worth it.
- there is an actor who fascinates me, even more so becase I understand that although he is very appreciated, in the US he does not have that magic he has in France – and that’s Leonardo di Caprio.
- I think he has steered his career very well. He became famous as a pretty boy who makes the girls swoon, in big movies like Titanic. At the beginning he had a pretty babyface look, but today he has a real force on the screen. I think he is extremely intelligent and I love what he brings to his acting every time, and he has made very good choices.
- I often say to myself they have so many great actors in the USA, so why would they chose a young Frenchman for a movie role. But we are lucky, since it is now trendy to look for talents in other countries, and that especially goes for directors, there are more and more foreign directors who make American produced movies and that is great.July 4th, 2011
